This preservative powder has multiple ingredients that work together to preserve and stabilize breastmilk. After the breastmilk is preserved it can be used to make a keepsake jewelry or ornament. This is a sachet to preserve 5ml breastmilk.
How to use?
- Preserving breastmilk is done au bain-marie. Make a double boiler by pouring water into a pan and placing a second pan or glass bowl in the pan. The smaller pan or glass bowl should float in the larger pan with water.
- Bring the water to a boil. Measure 5 ml of breastmilk and place it in the top pan. Add the entire packet of preservative powder to the warmed breastmilk.
- Stir the powder into breastmilk until your breastmilk has the consistency of a thick paste (similar to hummus). Make sure it doesn't dry or cook much longer.
- Spread the paste of your preserved breastmilk as thinly as possible on baking paper. Let it dry for at least 48 hours. Once it is dry, grind the breastmilk into a powder using a stone pestle and mortar or use the back of a spoon to crush the stored breast milk on a flat surface. Crush it until it becomes a powder. Sometimes fine grinding is not possible in one go. Then try it a few times until it becomes as fine as possible (baby powder consistency).
